The remains of a once powerful volcanic eruption, the Ash Fields are covered with settled ash and cooled lava. It is said that a small town not affiliated with Tsuchi no Kuni was located here and is buried along with its people underneath the ash. Although the ash can easily be swept away by the almost non-existant winds, the solid lava prevents the excavation of the old civilization. Tsuchi no Kuni claimed this area about 10 years ago so the tourism to the area is still booming.
Running through the surrounding wooded area is an active stream of lava which seemingly never stops flowing. This could be the reason why the volcanoes of the area have not errupted in the past few decades. The stream provides a much more dangerous way to train chakra by a technique known as 'lava walking' that only shinobi at least chunin rank are allowed to try.
Located on the western side of the Volcanic Ridge. No one knows what is beyond here and there is a strict rule against traveling to this place. Smoke given off here is disregarded as it is thought to be from the volcanoes, but, is it really? Only one person is known to have crossed this border, but he was never seen again.
